We visited Funkibator

Me (Hanna) and Anneli from the KoK secretariat in Stockholm went by train to Växjö to visit Funkibator. We were curious since we read a lot about them and they won a prize for their area of business.

Pia Hammargren founded the organisation in 2008. Today the have about 45 employees and about 30 of these employees have a disability. Lucas Karlsson showed us around and told us about what they do.

Funkibator is a building with different areas of work and NGO:s. Lucas says that is good to have so many different organisations in the house. It creates good energi and collaborations.

There are many ongoing projects in the Funkibator building. They have got a publishing house, a shop for standbys, a scene for cultural events, a dog day-care center, a pet stable, a greenhouse and much more.

Funkibator also arrange different lectures and happenings together with Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan at the scene for culture. The scene got VR, in collaboration with a sound artist that make sound visible when light is added.

Due to the Corona pandemic, they have come up with new solutions for their activities. They have a Zoom yoga class for people in wheelchair and acroyoga have brought many new participants.

Many different ideas take place in the house. There is a lot of will and energi to make things happen a develop collaborations in-house as well as abroad.

Volunteers from different Erasmus countries come and work at Funkibator. They can help people with accessible lodging.

They work with different target groups. People with dissabilites, kids with neuropsychiatric dissabilities and high school student who want to try out working for Funkibator and study as well.

Funkibator knows how to find solutions and possiblities. We hope we might collaborate in the future!

Thank you for the visit!
